Blogg assignment 3

The book I have been reading has probably been read by most of you. It is Dan Browns masterpiece “Angels and demons”. The book is fictive, but it addresses a topic that is very real: antimatter.

Antimatter can be described as the opposite of matter. When matter and antimatter join together they destroy each other and a huge amount of energy is produced. If one gram of matter and one gram of antimatter is united, the energy produced is enough to keep a 100W lamp lit for 60 000 years. Scientists today are working on producing antimatter. If they succeed, we would probably never have to worry about the energy problem again. There is one problem though, since antimatter is destroyed as soon as it gets in touch with matter, it is very hard to preserve it. At CERN in Switzerland scientist are working on trying to solve this. They have succeeded in creating antimatter, and they have been able to preserve it, but only for some nano seconds.

In the book, scientist has been able to create antimatter, and preserve it. Unfortunately, an evil person steels it and threatens to blow the entire Vatican into small pieces.

Even if this scenario takes place in a fictive book, I do not believe that it is that far away from a possible reality. Because even if I would like to believe the opposite, people that will try to use this kind of power to do something evil will always exist. I am not saying that scientist in CERN should stop trying to create antimatter. If they succeed the energy problem might be solved forever. We should not forget though, that great power can solve world problems, but it can also create huge new ones.

Blogg assignment

This presentation deals with a topic that interests me allot. I definitely agree with Annie Leonard. I too think we are living in a society where we are consuming our way to destruction. As a poor student with a very tight budget, I would not consider myself as a shopaholic. Looking around me, though, I’m seeing allot of people who are. I believe we all know someone who has to have everything in the latest version, but there is nothing wrong with that. The problem is last week version that he/she bought one month ago. This iPhone/computer/sweater gets thrown away and it lands on the humongous pile of trash that we cal “garbage dumb”. On top of this we should not forget that every time a new iPhone/computer/sweater is produced, raw materials are needed to be used as well. Every time raw materials are used the national recourses that we have on this planet is reduced.

The situation is untenable. Continuing this way we will destroy our own planet. I believe the only way too save this planet is to change our lifestyles. It is absolutely necessary that we slow down our consuming pace and start recycling.

I do not think we are doomed though. Because today many teenagers buy there clothes on second hand and just the other day I saw a commercial that requested the watcher to make exotic dishes from yesterdays leftovers. The society has started to realise the seriousness in this, and it has started to react. Let’s just hope that the people follow.

Blog assignment 1

This text is about people who are doing things that are wrong, and sometimes even illegal, and get caught. In my opinion there is nothing wrong about that. As long as the boss is clear about in witch way he will be supervising his employees I can’t se anything wrong with it. When you are at work you have a job to do, a task that has been given to you and the reason you are getting paid is that you are doing your job. If you don’t do your task you’re not suppose to get paid. At some works it’s easy for the director to se whether the employees have done there job ore not. As an example it becomes pretty obvious that a buss-driver doesn’t do his job if the buss never shows up. But there are some tasks that are harder to check. A person that is suppose to do an investigation on the market by calling randomly picked people and ask them question, isn’t so easy to check up on. The fact that the employed is talking on the phone al day doesn’t have to mean that he is doing his job. In these cases snooping is the directors’ only tool to make sure his workers are doing what they are getting paid to do.
